Many homes are "open concept," with no doors or walls separating the main living spaces.  Because sound travels easily, there cannot be any activity within these areas during a Piano Tuning. 

(Ex: speaking, cooking, cleaning, etc.)

If you are in a room that is far enough away from the piano, and the room has a door that can be closed, then normal activity can occur in there.
